January 2021 - Weaving the New

Welcome to the Dare to Blossom Newsletter

First, may I wish you the best possible year ahead in 2021. I am aware that many people have had the worst of times in 2020, maybe you have had Covid 19 yourself; maybe you are still unwell. Maybe family or friends are; maybe you have lost someone to this awful disease. Maybe you are a key worker and have not had a proper rest for so long, and now find yourself back in the midst of the new upsurge.

Alongside all of that, maybe there were some wonderful moments: nature in her beauty and glory; the kindness of strangers; the friendships sustained even when we could not see each other. My wish for you, for us all, is for a happy and healthy year ahead, and an appreciation of every moment.

Reflections: Weaving the New

If nothing else, 2020 has shown me that no one can predict the future. And yet, I can choose how to weave the new into my life. I am so grateful to everyone who has connected with me this year. The last six week deep-dive circle was entitled 'Weavers of Shadow and Light' - and there will be another run of this programme beginning in mid-January, as well as another 'Your Powerful Voice' programme.

As you may have seen in the extra bulletin recently, I am also offering a New Year's Day gathering on Zoom (read on for full details below) where we can explore 'weaving the new' together and welcome in 2021.

As I begin reflecting for myself on this year and all that has been happening, so much has changed. Looking back, around this time last year I was writing the book 'The Powerful Voice of the Quiet Ones - Reflections on an Introvert's Life', which I published in January. For me, it feels a whole new chapter in my life has emerged since then. Such a strange year: In January I hosted the first of the six workshops scheduled at the Blue Lotus Therapy Centre, and intended to flow right through the year to November as usual. That day in January turned out to be my last in-person workshop for the foreseeable future.

In February I travelled to Glastonbury to celebrate my friend Soleira's 70th birthday along with other dear friends. In March I exhibited at the Cornwall Business Show. That was on 12th and we were already aware that we shouldn't exchange hugs or even shake hands. Big announcements were imminent from the UK government, and the show closed early.

Since then I have barely been anywhere except in the local area. I was hugely grateful when lock-down was eased a little and I was able to drive the few miles to my favourite places to walk on the cliffs.  And yet, life has continued. I am so lucky that most of my work was already online or easily transferable. Death continued also. I have not as yet lost anyone close to me to the virus, and yet the deaths that have occurred are made so much more difficult to cope with by the circumstances.  At the same time, I honour every one, every person who has left their body this year (for me personally, that is two family members and several dear friends), and celebrate the gifts they gave me . And still do in the memories and insights that arise in reflection.

Weaving the shadow and light together without judgement of which events could be seen as 'shadow' and which as 'light' has been my way to cope. One of the participants in my groups this year recently sent me this quote: “The brighter the light, the darker the shadow.” from Carl Jung. My first response, as I write now, is to think of the bright lights of those I have lost in the physical world, who are still there, even if not in body, and who I believe are simply shining in a different way. Does that mean that the shadow of my grief is 'darker'? Deep maybe, not necessarily 'dark' - although it is all an interpretation. I find it hard to separate my own assumptions and judgements - those ones so automatic that somehow represent 'light' as 'good' and 'dark' as 'bad'.

If I have learned anything, I know that is not true. One small example is that I love very dark chocolate, and don't like white chocolate at all..... Other people may feel the opposite. And that does not mean one is good and the other bad - just a matter of taste. (Maybe not the best of examples....it could be argued neither is good!)

The beautiful deep shadows in this photograph would not be there without the light...

So - I am not quite sure where that piece of flow-writing without self-editing has taken me. I am choosing to leave it for you to read, or not, as you wish. Part of my own weaving the new is allowing that to be OK. To allow my perfectionist side to sleep peacefully and not awaken  in horror when I dare to send something unpolished out into the world.

In the new world that is coming, as it always does, I am choosing to see all the shades of dark and light and especially colour. The rainbow colours in my photo caused by the bright light in the camera lens. All those extraordinary colours and aspects of nature which would not be possible without the contrasts. Night, day; winter, summer. Deep in the earth, high in the air. All those things we cannot change, yet we can choose what to focus on what to celebrate, what to leave behind, how we respond.

So, this year, I am making plans, as always. At the same time I am more aware than ever before of how the world can change in an instant. Whether that is a global pandemic, the sudden death of my brother, or the equally shocking loss of a close coaching friend. there is nothing I can do to change what happens. As  a human being, I am sometimes afraid, grief-stricken, worried, wobbly - all those things. And those are all part of just that, being human. And, I can weave a tapestry of love, joy, memories, light, shadow, new ways of being.

This is an old painting, one you may have seen before. One of my favourites. Every time I look at it I see something different. Just now I see the 'green sprite' as I call it, in the centre. I see all the shades of light and dark in the green. I see the weaving together of all the other colours in the painting.

When I look back at 2020 I see something quite extraordinary. What stands out for me now, in this moment, is all the little kindnesses of thousands, millions, of 'ordinary people'. All those actions that they may feel are insignificant. All adding up to a different way of being in the world.

That is one of the 'strands' that I will take forward with me into 2021, to weave into the new I hope to see. And I am a little surprised, but then again not at all - to realise that the sadness of loss is another strand I will weave afresh. There is always loss. In nature many plants, insects, even animals only survive one year. Others such as the giant trees of the forest will out-live me by hundreds of years. The cycles of life and death in nature turn, as does the wheel of year. In my experience I know I never stop grieving for people I have lost. And yet, the presence of that grief, every day, can be woven into my new tapestry of life, as a contrast, as a counterpoint, as a downbeat note to balance the upbeat parts of my tune. Making everything seem richer, more resonant, more luxuriantly textured.

For your reflections, journal, meditation, art or doodles:
- What stands out from your reflections on 2020?
- What strands will you take forward with you to weave into 2021?
- Are you intrigued by any of them?

Enjoy reflecting and exploring and  go gently with yourselves and all around you dear friends, as we step together into a new year, a new turn around the sun.

Reader Reflections: On The Light Within, from Catherine

Last month I received a number of replies to my reflections on 'The Light Within', which was accompanied by this painting. One of those was from a long-time subscriber, Catherine, who says this:

"I loved your painting of the light within. I felt a great familiarity and affinity with what you had depicted. I felt compelled to write in response.

On the recommendation of a friend, I recently began to hug trees on my walks in Bushy Park, near where I live. There are all sorts of trees there, scattered around the woodland garden: oaks, beech and a fantastic avenue of hornbeams that look as though you are standing inside a cathedral. It’s not a huge old forest, but here and there in the park are oaks which are clearly hundreds of years old - judging from their girth and shape.

I wanted to write to say my experience of hugging an oak is one of the most grounding things I have felt since lockdown. I feel the solidity of the tree. I’m aware of the branches above, the canopy of leaves (still a few at this time of year), but more strongly the rooted quality of the tree firmly planted in the soil beneath my feet, whilst standing on a pile of crunchy golden autumn leaves. I enjoy hugging trees so much that I dwell there for some time and it stills my thoughts and heart. It’s as if I can feel the strength, wisdom, and life force of the oak. There is an energy just like the light you depicted in your painting.

I introduced a friend to this tree hugging activity recently. She and I have shared some walks and cycle rides this year at social distance - but we hadn’t hugged trees before. She is going through the grief of losing her sister to cancer a few weeks ago. My friend also had a deep response to the delight of tree hugging. We became more playful with this tree hugging business by comparing the sensations we felt from different species of trees. The oak came out top. Something about the ‘wise old oak’ perhaps?

My friend and I both live alone, so to hug a tree has been very comforting in the current climate of no hugs. I wondered if you or your readers are tree huggers? I thoroughly recommend it. Anxiety, worry and fears seem to fall away whilst connecting with a ‘wise old oak’. I have found being in nature to be refreshing, grounding, healing and good for my well-being. A presenter on the BBC’s Autumn Watch programme explained some of the science behind the benefits of walking in nature recently. For example, they commented on inhaling the air in a wood and smelling the soil. I have loved the smell of autumn since childhood, that cool fresh air, even on a misty, frosty morning. I open my bedroom windows in the mornings with excitement at this time of year. Now I know why, it’s actually good for me!

If you’d like to post this to your readers I would be happy for you too. Hugging trees is a real joy. Just a word of caution, do ask them to be careful of brambles, roots and uneven land, and to step carefully before or after! "

Thank you Catherine. If anyone else would like to contribute to future editions of this newsletter, whether with a response as Catherine has, or thoughts on a new subject, please do submit something. I rarely reject anything, although I do reserve the option to do that if I feel what is offered does not fit with the ethos here.

More New Artwork

After I wrote last month I continued to play with new artwork. I have added more on the website. Here are two examples for you. This time I was experimenting with a selection of coloured papers, a vibrant red on which I used yellow, orange, and black waxes. And a cream, which lends a slightly different effect to the blue shades than my usual bright white base paper. Even though the photos are not equal, these paintings are actually the same size, 4" x 6" in 6" x 8" mounts - giving you little jewel-like paintings that do not need much space to display. Having said that, some people have them double-mounted and framed in a larger size, which is also very effective.

Dare to Blossom Monthly Circle on Zoom 8th January

As you may have seen last month, I have been asked to set up a 'light touch' circle - one where there is no commitment to a regular private group as with my in-depth circles. Of course people receive big insights from those, and - it is not always the time to do that in practical terms. Also, many people, especially those of you who subscribe to my monthly newsletter, do not wish to be involved in groups on Facebook.

This is simply a monthly Zoom gathering, an invitation to a 'pay as you go' monthly circle on Friday mornings at 11.00 am UK time. The fee is £20. As well as taking part, you will receive a photo of the cards I draw for you, and a recording of the call (only sent to those  who are present live). Full details and booking are here, Or simply contact me by replying to this email if you prefer. You can book in advance, or choose to receive an invoice after the event, I will leave that up to you, and trust that if you enjoy the experience you will be happy to offer that in exchange for the love and energy I put into creating the Circle for you.

The monthly dates for 2021 are here, the next after January will be Friday 5th February at 11.00 am UK time.

This is a chance to gather, as if sitting chatting around a table, and simply share some time together. We will use the processes that are familiar to many of you, the
Compass Rose Speaks opening and closing meditation, the Dare to Blossom Rediscovery Cards and the Magic Carpet Ride guided visualisation, to explore whatever is arising for us on that day. If you are thinking 'I am not familiar with those...' and would like to know more, please contact me. We can always chat on Zoom over a cuppa - and that is a chance to set up that service if it is new to you. Even though I describe this as 'light touch', the insights and experiences are no less powerful for that, for the fact we do not interact in a group between the monthly circles. In fact, people who enjoy being in the deep-dive programmes would probably tell you that the Zoom gatherings are the essential part of the whole process.

Three free Taster Circles and the new 2021 programmes

The first event of 2021, is on New Year's Day, 1st January,on Zoom at 2,30 pm UK time. Book your place by replying to this email, or through the Facebook event page here.

The six week 'deep dive' Circles have attracted people from around the world during 2020, some of whom have returned time after time. I have two new programmes beginning in January 2021, with different themes, and differing times for the live Zoom circles to allow for as many people as possible in different time zones to join us.

The first step is to come along to a taster circle:

Tuesday 5 January at 9.30 am UK time: "Your Powerful Voice" taster. You can book
on Facebook here, or simply contact me by replying to this email. The six week programme begins on Monday 11 January, in a private Facebook group, with the weekly Zoom gatherings at 9.30 am on Tuesdays. Full details here.

Thursday 14 January at 2.30 pm UK time: "Weavers of Shadow and Light" taster. You can book on Facebook here, or simply contact me by replying to this email. The six week programme begins on Monday 18 January, in a private Facebook group, with the weekly Zoom gatherings at 2.30 pm on Thursdays. Full details here.

For those of who have attended these circles before, you will know that the magic happens in individual ways for each of us, almost regardless of the theme I have decided upon. Of course there will be differences between "Weavers of Shadow and Light" and "Your Powerful Voice", and - whoever comes along, even if the choice is simply on the time, whoever comes along will receive exactly what is right for them.

I provide a structure, a container, with weekly and daily prompts; the weekly live gatherings with cards drawn for each of us, the Magic Carpet Ride guided visualisation, the Compass Rose Speaks meditation - and it is always the case that the true magic happens 'in the gaps; between all that. In the laughter, the witnessing for each other, in the tears, the tender moments that are shared. One of the processes is a group card, twice a week, so two cards for each place and point of the Compass Rose, building up into a beautiful pattern. Here is an example from a recent Circle. As we begin in the centre point, in Peace, and then return there in the final week together the only place to put those last two cards is as 'wings'.

Thank you dear friends for visiting with me again this month and sharing my musings.

Until next time,

with love,
Mary

Reflections: The Light Within

What a year 2020 has been.... for all of us, wherever we are in the world. If you have been directly affected by the pandemic, I send love for you and your family.
There have been so many words written about all that, I don't think I will add any more. Instead, when wondering about the theme for this month, as we approach midwinter in the northern hemisphere, midsummer in the south, those words "The Light Within" popped into my mind.

You may well have seen this painting of mine before, possibly more than once. I have various titles for it - sometimes "The Tree of Light", and at others, "The Light Within". It emerged from play with paint and meditation at a workshop with my friend, the talented artist
Annie B Roberts At first I had no idea that it would become a tree. When I took the painting home and looked at it for a while, I decided to frame it. For me it signifies simply being, simply allowing the light within to shine naturally out into the world.

It may represent something completely different to you. And the image those words bring for you - "The Light Within" - may be different also.

For your reflections, journal, meditation, art or doodles:
- What does "The Light Within" bring for you? Try flow-writing for ten minutes and see where the journey takes you.
- Are there any gifts emerging from your experiences this year?
- What will you celebrate as we pass through the Solstice and towards the end of one year and the beginning of the next.

New Artwork

After a long break, I have at last got down to some new encaustic artwork. Such a joy for me to play with colours and textures. There is a new selection ready to view, and purchase, on the website. Here are two examples for you.

New offering: a 'pay as you go' monthly Zoom Dare to Blossom Circle

So, I am sharing this new offering at the top of the newsletter today, as the first event is at the beginning of the month: I have been asked to set up a 'light touch' circle - one where there is no commitment to a regular private group as with my in-depth circles. Of course people receive big insights from those, and - it is not always the time to do that in practical terms. If it is popu
lar, I hope that a group will gather who would like to meet every month, and I will set up a subscription with a discount for 2021. I have a provisional date of Friday 4th December at 11.00 am UK time for a second meet-up.

This will be a chance to gather, as if sitting chatting in a beautiful garden, and simply share some time together. We will use the processes that are familiar to many of you, the

Reflections: Autumn and Rebirth

One of those titles, 'Autumn and Aging', from November 2013, prompted me to go back and read my own words. I considered including the whole article here as I sometimes do.

And yet, I am now looking at this from a different perspective. Many of you reading this are in parts of the world where November is spring, moving into summer. This time last year I was preparing to travel to New Zealand myself - and how grateful I am now that I made that visit while I could, not knowing what the future held, that a global pandemic was on the way.

I feel now that both autumn and spring are times of rebirth. Here in Cornwall, the new flower buds are already forming on the magnolias and rhododendrons ready to burst into beautiful bloom in early March.

Rebirth happens all around us in nature. In our own lives we so often feel that life has come to an end, especially as we grow older, maybe reaching retirement, maybe leaving work or carrying on. Or like me, being made redundant and expanding my part-time coaching practice into full time.

For me, as I gain more years behind me, bigger numbers in my 'age' every year, I find myself feeling more focused. With more clarity, more passion for what I do, more commitment to the people I work with. I know so many others who feel the same, who feel they are becoming younger in attitude and outlook.

There is so much potential amongst us 'older people'  and together with the young, with all ages, we can change the world. I recently wrote a chapter for a new book published by the 'Bright Future Collective' - Love Letters from the Future. It can be read as fiction - and as a range of suggestions, as inspiration for what could be possible.

So, this month, as a prompt for you journal, you may like to choose a date way ahead, or just a few years hence, and write yourself a love letter from your future self. From a bright future that is so different to the world we find ourselves in today. Have fun, as I did, be as imaginative as you like - who knows, it may come true. And if not, the enjoyment and escape will be a tonic.

Thank you dear friends for visiting with me again this month and sharing my musings.

Until next time,

with love,
Mary

October 2020: Weavers of Shadow and Light

Reflections: Weavers of Shadow and Light

I know, have always known, that I am a weaver - someone who creates connections for people. Someone who weaves stories in words, through photographs, in art, in energy. And it is only fairly recently that I have come to appreciate how I can use my weaver's skill to help myself, and others, particularly in these strange times we are living through.

In various conversations and meditations over the last week or so, this phrase arose: "Weavers of Shadow and Light". It has now become the theme for the next Dare to Blossom Circle, running for six weeks from 26th October.

Here is how I began the piece on the website:

If you are here, ready to find out how to become a Weaver of Shadow and Light, know that you are truly already a powerful weaver.

Whether we do this consciously or not, each of us weaves our lives, moment by moment, day by day. Sometimes our weave is unbalanced, distorted even, by the efforts we make to hide those parts of us we feel are wrong, or shameful, or not acceptable. Too much, too little. Too loud, too quiet. Too tall, too short.

We judge ourselves all the time, as we also judge others around us. All of this is natural, and yet, when we become more aware, and consciously choose the threads we choose to weave, we can alter this.

We can welcome all parts of ourselves with love and care. We can weave those 'darker' shades in amongst the light to add depth, to add balance, to add beauty.

Personally, I am often afraid of the dark - whether that is literally the dark of night, or the emotional shadows that I hesitate to uncover.

Yet we cannot be whole without them. I know, have always known, that I am a weaver - someone who creates connections for people. Someone who weaves stories in words, through photographs, in art, in energy. And it is only fairly recently that I have come to appreciate how I can use my weaver's skill to help myself, and others, particularly in these strange times we are living through.

(Outline details here, more to follow soon). I have two taster circles on Zoom coming up, (before the new six week Circle begins on 26th October), on Monday 19th October at 7.30 pm UK time, and on Thursday 22nd October at 2.30 pm - and that second day and time will be the same for the regular weekly gatherings. Contact me by replying to this email if you would like details of the Zoom links for those, or to find out more. The fee for the six weeks is £98, with a discount for people who have taken part in previous programmes with me.

As I was writing here, now for this newsletter, I was sure I had written about something like this before. it took me a while to find it, from June 2016:

From my archives 1: June 2016 Reflections: the balance of dark and light

Everywhere in life there are opposites: hot/cold, night/day, summer/winter, sweet/sour, wet/dry, up/down, north/south, east/west, and black (or dark) and light. Some of these are observable, many are subjective: one person's 'hot' is another's 'cold' (or cool at least).

As human beings trying to make sense of our lives the tendency is to make judgements based on past experience. This can mean that what is happening to me now, in this instant, the only moment that is actually 'real' - this instant is seen through a filter of assumptions. These may, or may not serve me well. Some have been acquired through my own physical experiences, and others learned from those around me. If all those people who influenced me as I was growing up as a young child believed that a certain thing was 'good' and another thing 'bad' - it can be very hard for me to un-learn those prejudices - in the sense of 'pre-judgements. (I find it interesting that I have to explain that - am I 'prejudiced' against the word 'prejudice'? And, I feel I need to say, I am very purposefully writing in the first person today to do my best not to assume that anyone else makes the same 'pre-judgements' as I do).

What I can be doing is making assumptions that one thing is 'right' and therefore the other, the opposite, must be 'wrong'. I come to see more clearly now that usually I benefit from some of each quality. This is necessary to enjoy the temperate maritime climate here in Cornwall  - I love the sunshine, and I know that rain is needed to enable the land to remain as green and fertile as it is, so I wouldn't say rain is 'bad'.

So, when it comes to black and white or dark and light, as in the title of these reflections today, there are so many centuries of culture, tradition, superstition, story-telling behind me, that it is an interesting exercise to tease out some of what I feel about those terms. The picture shows our 'yin yang' garden just after it was freshly laid last year.

This definition, found on Google, illustrates the point I am trying to make:

"In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang (also yin-yang or yin yang
陰陽 yÄ«nyáng "dark—bright") describes how opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another."

Coming back to complete these reflections after a gap of twenty-four hours, I have had the phrase 'from black and white to colour' running through my mind. It is the title of a book by Richard Wilkins (he is very active on Facebook, and his website is
here.) I met Richard sometime in the 1990s, and he was, and has been ever since, a great inspiration. This little book is a collection of his poems and sayings drawn from his own experience of getting to rock bottom and finding the only way was up.

I think the thought I am stumbling towards is this: life truly is never black and white. There many shades of grey between those extremes. And, if I am able to choose to see life this way, there is an infinite variety of glorious colours too. Science shows many more that my human eyes cannot detect.
................................................................................
As often happens for me, sharing my flow writing, my personal process, with you is beginning to feel exposed and a little scary. I have lost the thread of the point I was making here, starting off to talk about black and white. Or is it necessary to have a 'point' at all? To answer myself, yes, sometimes, absolutely - if I need to convince someone or explain something clearly. And also, no - not here, not today. I feel no need to be 'right'; no impulse to show that someone else may be 'wrong'.

Those "contrary forces" that "are actually complementary, interconnected, and interdependent" contain gifts in their interdependence. Maybe venturing into the dark, the shadow, within me will allow me to see things that the sunshine of the light obscures in dazzling brightness?
.....................................................................
Another break. A walk on the cliffs this morning. Some extraordinary insights - which will need me to spend some time with in meditation before I write anything I feel able to share about them. The images I saw were about going deep within - inside the earth, or inside myself - into the dark. Emerging changed by the dark, and by treasures - the jewels, the crystals - of light I found there.

For you, for your journal or meditation practice:
- if any phrase or word resonates with you from this piece, choose to flow write or meditate on those words
- what emerges for you?
- what gifts can you find within?
- do you wish to paint, draw, collage - express this visually in some way?

One to one Coaching: "Your Powerful Voice" Coaching Programme - special offer held open for you

Maybe groups are not for you? Maybe you don't wish to be on Facebook? Or you would like to dive deeper into this work for yourself? I offer one to one sessions on Zoom in a six session programme, around the theme of "Your Powerful Voice". We will follow the same flow as in the group work, around the points of the Compass Rose, beginning and ending in your centre point, in Peace. One question people often ask is: "Can I choose my own theme?" Yes, absolutely - the one to one sessions are your time to use exactly as you want. Having said that, I know from my sessions with my own coaches that I may begin with a topic in mind, only to find that we end up somewhere completely different, often having answered my questions in an unexpected way. Therefore, this programme, designed over my years of experience, is proven to help people arrive where they want to be, even if they don't know where that is at the beginning.

Here are the details - if you visit soon, there is a special offer on the full programme, and also on a one-session trial special here.  The website gives the closing date as 30th September, but if you contact me as soon as possible, I will be able to offer you a place at those prices.

At any time, you can book a twenty minute complimentary consultation. Contact me here.

This process can change your life if you choose, why not give it a try? If not now, then when?

Thank you dear friends for visiting with me again this month and sharing my musings.

Until next time,

with love,
Mary

September 2020 - Rest

September 2020

Welcome to the Dare to Blossom Newsletter

Events and ways to Dare to Blossom: 7/9 new six week programme, and 12/9 a stand-alone workshop, all on Zoom

Reflections: Rest

How interesting. I intended to write about fresh starts this month, about how September feels like a time for that, a stepping into the new...and it will be for many of us. Some will be entering the new academic year, one quite unlike any other for those studying or supporting their family in doing so. September is also a time when, here in Cornwall, it feels as if everyone, everything, breathes a sigh of relief as the weight of people visiting reduces a little.

I have often thought I have heard the land, the earth herself, breathe more easily. I am not sure how it will be this year, if there will still be many more holiday makers here than usual as people choose not to go overseas.

Always, I hope to feel full of energy and enthusiasm as this time begins. The period between summer and the preparations for Christmas, when people may have time to reflect, to think about what they wish to plan for their future. Instead, I find within me (and maybe for you?) a deep exhaustion.

(I have chosen this photo, taken some years ago now in the Chalice Well Gardens in Glastonbury, as the perfect image to inspire me to rest. To imagine sitting here, gently rocking, looking out over the gardens.)

We have all been carrying so much 'weight': physically, emotionally. We have been coping with extraordinary times. I have often written about 'rest' before. And I know how little I allow myself to do that, to truly rest, recharge, revitalise my body and soul.

As well as the global pandemic, and everything else happening in the world around us, we all have the other 'stuff' of life going on: celebrations of marriages and births; the grief of death - and the celebration of that person's life.

In addition, many of us are struggling financially through the effects of the measures to try and control the pandemic, with fear of the future underlying all that as well.

And yet, and yet - the human spirit is so resilient, so amazing at rising above the pain and struggle; so wonderfully adaptable. For me, I find rest and rejuvenation in my walks on the cliffs and in my connection with nature wherever I find it, not least in my garden, which is full of a bounteous harvest at this time of year.

Yesterday I had another wonderful connection with the fulmars on the cliffs, as I watched them swooping and soaring in the wind. This time there was a very special encounter: One came very close and connected directly with me, eye to eye. The message was the same as always: "Go with the flow: use the uplift." Here is a link to a short video. (The photo below you may have seen before, it is from another occasion as I was busy enjoying the moment this time.)

Reflecting on that message now: "Go with the flow" could be seen as being inactive, letting go. Not necessarily a bad thing when I need to rest, and at the same time I feel I need something to help me begin to find energy as we move into the 'fresh start' time of September. Then "Use the uplift" provides exactly what I need: the fulmar is not being lazy, simply minimising exertion, maximising the results. To mix metaphors, maybe it is time for me to stop trying to struggle upstream against the flow of the river, but rather to enjoy the energy, the power of the water as it carries me down stream towards the new.

For you: for your flow-writing in your journal, your meditation, your doodles, your song, your dance:

  • Are you feeling the need for rest right now?
  • What would feel most deliciously refreshing for you to do?
  • Write about "Go with the flow" and 'Use the uplift". What emerges for you?
  • Choose one of the titles from the poem below for some flow-writing with no expectation of the outcome or destination.

Here is my 'past titles poem' for this month, you may like to try reading it aloud. I find the flow changes each time I do that, and at the direction change in the middle, which can be interesting.

Events and ways to Dare to Blossom

"Your Powerful Voice" Autumn Online Six Week Circle - begins on 7th September

There is still time to join us in this next turn around the Compass Rose, and the exploration of "Your Powerful Voice".  The full details are here. We share in a private Facebook group and with weekly Zoom gatherings, on Thursdays at 2.30 pm UK time. The price for the full six weeks is £88, with discounts for people who have been to past circles. You can choose to pay in two instalments if that helps you with cash flow.

If you would like a chat on Zoom first to be sure this is right for you, simply use the contact form here.

If the timing is not right for you, the next circle will run from late October to early December. The Zoom gatherings will be on a different day and time, to be decided in consultation with those who are interested. Or, you may prefer the Online Workshop, a stand-alone event with no need to interact with Facebook, see more below.

Online Workshop 12th September: Your Powerful Voice, an exploration

Join us for a special event on Saturday 12th September, from the comfort of your home, via Zoom.

Many people have taken part in the online programmes over four or six weeks, but for others this is not possible, so this standalone circle offers you an opportunity to experience the magic for yourself.

I will offer you the tried and tested processes: drawing Dare to Blossom cards for each of us, and leading us on a guided visualisation, a Magic Carpet Ride. You may find your magic carpet, or you may not. You may take off on a journey, or you may not. You may return with messages, insights for your business or your career, you may simply returned refreshed after a rest. Everything that happens is simply perfect for that moment.

The 'magic' truly happens in the gaps between the structure, the container, I provide for our circle. It may come through a card drawn for someone else; or in the words used in a description of a magic carpet ride; or later, after we have parted ways. There is always a nugget, or several, for each person who comes along.

Details:

When: Saturday 12th September, 10.00 am UK time for one and a half to two hours.

Where: on Zoom video-conferencing.

How much: £22.00. Book using the PayPal link on the website here, or contact me to arrange payment by bank transfer.
